VISA OFFICER LEVEL 1
The Visas and Immigration Section requires fully bilingual (spoken and written) (Spanish and English) candidates to fill a Visa Officer position. The positions require very good organisational, analytical and interpersonal skills.

VISA OFFICER LEVEL 1
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Role
Visa Officers are responsible for making visa decisions in accordance with Australian migration laws, policies and guidelines. Visa Officers deliver accurate, timely and high quality service and information to clients in accordance with departmental service standards. They also apply high ethical standards and a high level of judgement in making visa decisions on a range of applications including straightforward and complex cases. Visa Officers work as part of a team and are responsible for the day to day management of high volume workloads with limited supervision.
Duty Statement
• Manage a high volume visa processing and decision making workload with limited supervision and in accordance with work group, office and departmental requirements and priorities.
• Assess and decide visa applications to Australia in accordance with Australian migration legislation and Departmental policy instructions.
• Undertake all necessary checks and investigations, including use of departmental information systems, to determine the bona fides of visa applications.
• Prepare relevant documentation, case notes and decision records in relation to visa processing and ensure all Departmental records are updated and accurate.
• Provide services to clients that are timely, accurate and professional.
• Effectively manage client enquiries, as well as urgent, sensitive and complex cases, escalating to supervisors when necessary.
• Liaise with applicants, stakeholders and other departmental offices on visa processing matters.
• Work collaboratively with the team to ensure quality, client service and output targets are met.
• In consultation with supervisors, implement projects relevant to specific caseloads, client service improvement, and overall work of the section and/or Government directions.
Selection Criteria

1. Ability to exercise sound judgement, analytical and investigative skills in making visa decisions including the ability to interpret and apply legislation and policies to individual cases and classes of visa.
2. Proven ability to work independently to manage own workload and meet deadlines. This includes very good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
3. Proven ability to provide excellent client service including the ability to liaise effectively with clients and stakeholders to achieve the resolution of an issue.
4. Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and contribute to overall team goals.
Visa Officer Level 1
Salary and conditions
Gross monthly salary | 1,002,301 Chilean Pesos. Employee contributions to health and pension funds will be deducted from the salary and paid by the Embassy. |
Monthly meal allowance | 60,000 pesos |
Taxes | The Embassy does not declare nor arrange payment of income tax for employees. This is the responsibility of the employee as specified in the Embassy’s Conditions of Service Handbook. |
Working hours | 38 hours week 8:30 – 12:30 and 13:30 – 17:00 |
Vacations | 3 weeks (15 working days) per year |
Public holidays | 14 days (a mix of Chilean and Australian public holidays) |
